Does Something Out There Scare You?

 9/15/2026

One of  the great 'buddy ' movies of all times as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford, two incredibly good-looking actors.

The story based on two real life bank and train robbers follows them robbing, laughing and dodging the law. This is what I call an end of an era metaphor.   Click to watch the scene. I have seen the movie many times as well as clips of scenes as well as one where the type crawl on the bottom of the screen offered explanation of how the scene was filmed.  The Shootist is an entire 1901 based picture depicting an end of the Wild West era.

In the above  scene, after robbing banks and trains for years, they offer to fight in the Spanish American war, 1898, if the law forgives them of all their robberies. The sheriff, you two are as nice a fellas as I ever met, declares, you are both crazy, if caught you will be jailed for a thousand years.  Don't you get it, it's over!

What Sheriff Bledsoe means is that the Wild West of bank robberies, shoot outs,  open saloon gambling and well use your imagination, is over, things are civilized now. Then Sundance fearfully  looks out the window. Sheriff Bledsoe observes, you see something out there that scares ya, don't you?

Where am i going with this?  The scene is much more than just another western movie scene. It is how all manias and cycle end.  The Wild West, the Roaring 20s, the dot.com era, the subprime era, and now I think, my opinion, the long bull market in stocks from 1982, and well, perhaps the end of the go go Higher Education era, forever raising tuition and fees above the rate of inflation.

And this is true of fraudsters today, the more modern equivalent of bank and train robbers, once facing jail.

Which brings us to Elizabeth Holmes, in jail, or Charlie Javice, , now seeking a paradon from her 84  month sentence, or Rita Crundwell or Jeff Skilling who were seeking to get out  of jail.

Theranos did not have a traditional external auditor; the company raised over $700 million without ever providing audited financial statements from an independent public accounting firm.

I asked AI about Theranos' external auditor, it was not a public company, here is the 'red flag' answer.

External Audit Situation

Theranos' auditing practices were notably unconventional.

  • Lack of Independent Audit — Theranos raised more than $700 million without ever having its financial statements audited by an independent firm.
  • Investor Oversight — Many investors did not request audited financial statements, which is atypical for such large investments.
  • Regulatory Scrutiny — The company faced significant scrutiny from regulators, leading to investigations into its lab practices.
  • Internal Audits — Theranos claimed to have transparency with its internal audits, but these were not independent.

For Elizabeth Holmes, it's been hell and torture.

Here is Liz posing at the white House no less, and with her Forbes 30 under 30 award, shared later with Charlie Javice. This is for the number 30 of those aged 30 or less making a big splash, well at the time.

I am guessing the dress above  is not an off the rack Dillards $400 cocktail dress, more like a multi-thousand designer special.  Well look at her now.  I guess this is  her version of hell and torture. Quite a come down.

It also occurs to me that

Fortune magazine named Enron six years in a row as one of the most innovative companies in the US

Forbes named Liz Holmes and Charlie Javice to their 30 under 30 list

Barry Minkow was Wall Street's Fair Haired Boy taking ZZZZ Best public.

I am thinking that the existence of a brand new face enjoying such adulation may in and of tself may  be a red flag warning justifying, well, professional skepticism.

Short clip You can see everything

Her wide eyed stare in this clip seems creepy and unreal to me, how about you?

From jail, her comment, a failure is not a fraud?  Bold talk for someone in FED lockup turned down by an appeals court.
